Activity: Finish level design and dialogues
Time spent:
- 25-05-16:
- Design levels 3, 4 - 1 hr 45 mins
- 25-05-17:
- Implement secret set velocity - 5 mins
- design level 6 - 50 mins
- implement target exaggeration - 30 mins
- design level 7 - 15 mins
- playtest level 6 - 20 mins
- implement soft wall cube - 10 mins
- finetune & playtest level 6 - 10 mins
- Write dialogue for levels 3 through 7 - 45 mins
- Implement targets and finish hopefully everything (except voice acting) for all remaining levels - 1hr 30 mins
It is almost 3 AM and I am. extremely tired. so i'm going to try to keep this short.
Anyway, we had a choir rehearsal the whole day today, but I brought my laptop and worked on the game during the break. I designed the target exaggeration with some ellipsoid math which is probably one of my favourite pieces of this game now. Everything should be done except for voice acting and some fine tuning, all of which i'm going to do tomorrow. I also need to record and edit the trailer tomorrow, so. hhhhhhhhhh it'll be a lot of work
I implemented a "soft wall" which basically returns the player where they came from when they leave its bounds, without resulting in any sort of crash or anything. If you give it a big enough strength, it basically behaves as the wall in pong, returning you at the appropriate angle at the speed you came in (if the force is set to a smaller number, the result is the same except it happens over a longer period of time, allowing the player to go quite a ways inside the wall). This, however, can result in very much disorienting the player and i'd like to fix it tomorrow to something that just cancels out your velocity in that direction and returns you to the boundary, not allowing you to cross it. I might come up with something tomorrow, or I might not. Who knows honestly. not me
One of my proudest additions today though is not any of the intricately designed outer levels or new mechanics. but a level that would almost certainly very much annoy any potential speedrunners. This is a level that's supposed to simulate the rendez-vous between Eris' module and the mothership, and in the middle of it, you just have to sit and wait for over a minute for the module to "drift through space" to the mothership (in reality it's of course implemented differently but we don't need to go into detail here). I also sprinkled in some filler dialogues about Eris' cat Dysnomia (named after the moon Dysnomia of the dwarf planet Eris), and even a little reference to the game Mouthwashing which I was introduced to last week by my friends when we played through it, we're all now obsessed with it.
Anyway, while reading this I put my head in my palms for only a little bit and almost fell asleep, I think the universe is sending me subtle signals. Whatever they could mean. I'm going to be
